Summary, model-written
Hunt Valley Mall opened as an enclosed mall and closed in 2000. It was redeveloped and reopened in 2003 as the outdoor Hunt Valley Towne Centre, currently operating with 58 stores and anchor tenants Dick's Sporting Goods, Burlington Coat Factory, and Wegmans.
Why. The record shows anchor losses after redevelopment, including Wal-Mart's move to Cockeysville in 2007 and Best Buy's closure in 2012 as part of nationwide downsizing, which likely pressured the centre.
Where it stands. The site is currently operating as Hunt Valley Towne Centre; ownership is not specified in the record.
For a planner
- Redevelopment strategy was pursued, converting an enclosed mall to an outdoor retail centre.
- No explicit policy tools or incentives are documented in the record.
- Open questions include long-term tenant stability after anchor departures and the need for updated zoning or infrastructure plans.
For a developer
- Site size and current ownership control are not provided in the record.
- Entitlement stage and any zoning or land-use approvals post‑redevelopment are not detailed.
- Context‑layer constraints (flood risk, transit access, environmental factors) and local market signals such as tract‑level rent or demographics are absent.
What we do not know yet
- Original opening year and initial owner are not recorded.
- Current ownership, lease terms, and vacancy rates are unknown.
- Site‑specific context layers (floodplain, transit proximity, environmental conditions) are missing.
- Many fields (year_closed, year_retrofit, status, strategy, new_use, after_notes) are marked as extraction and remain unverified (verified: draft).
- Detailed financial performance or market comparables beyond the median rent mentioned in opp_reasons are not supplied.

Background
Hunt Valley Towne Centre, formerly Hunt Valley Mall, is an outdoor shopping mall in Hunt Valley, Maryland, with 58 stores. The development was constructed following the closure of Hunt Valley Mall in 2000. The new centre started operating in 2003. The anchor stores in existence today include Dick's Sporting Goods, Burlington Coat Factory and Wegmans. Wal-Mart was located at Hunt Valley mall until late October 2007, when it moved two miles south to Cockeysville, Maryland. It was replaced by Best Buy, which closed in May 2012 as part of a nationwide downsizing. Near a gazebo located in the main street area of the center, there is a memorial to Chuck Thompson. Hunt Valley's official mascot was Hunter the Valley Bear prior to redevelopment.
